Training and tasting in institutes and tasting in public schools

The youngest will be the protagonists of the activities prior to the Fair, including the “Get to know your olive oil” programme, a conference aimed at 4th year ESO students from the public high schools of Montoro on 25th and 26th April (IES Santos Isasa) and 8th May* (IES Antonio Galán Acosta). In terms of training, basic theoretical concepts will be dealt with so that the students learn to distinguish different types of oils by means of their properties and composition, and in addition, to give them with it the essential guidelines for the practical realization of a tasting of olive oil with the treated knowledge.

Among the main objectives of this activity, the aim is for students to get to know olive oil, see its differences with other fats and its culinary and health benefits, to value the product by studying and being informed about its varieties and to improve the use of this product through their knowledge.

On the other hand, the children will enjoy a miller’s breakfast during recess from 7 to 10 May; more than a thousand students from the four IEPCs of Montoro will be able to taste the quality oil accompanied by a song of bread and some exquisite olives.

These initiatives have been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Montoro-Adamuz Designation of Origin (Dcoop), Olivareras and Almazaras de Montoro Cooperatives, Olivarium, Fundación Caja Rural Jaén, Fundación Patrimonio Comunal Olivarero and Montoro City Council.

Note: The date of this conference is subject to change at IES Antonio Galán Acosta.
